Large mining equipment transmission gears, marine propulsion gears, etc. often experience tooth breakage due to overload or fatigue. The Daokedao laser cladding system is equipped with a six axis robot that can accurately locate the broken tooth area and reconstruct the tooth profile using a layer by layer additive manufacturing method. During the cladding process, the real-time temperature monitoring and feedback system is used to accurately control the thickness of each layer to be adjustable within the range of 0.2-2.5mm. The hardness of the cladding layer can be flexibly designed between HRC25-60 according to the gear working conditions. For large alloy steel gears, the special alloy powder of Daokedao can achieve perfect bonding without preheating conditions, with a uniform and continuous microstructure of the cladding layer, and no metallurgical defects such as pores and slag inclusions. The repaired gear has a tooth profile error of less than 0.05mm detected by three coordinate testing, and its contact fatigue life reaches over 90% of the new part, while the cost is only 30% -40% of replacing the new gear.
