Electric tools (such as angle grinders, electric drills, cutting machines, etc.) are commonly used hand-held operating equipment, and their internal gears shall not only achieve efficient power transmission, but also meet the lightweight design requirements to improve the portability of the equipment. The traditional gear reinforcement process (such as carburizing and nitriding) will increase the weight of the gear, and the reinforcement layer is thin, and the wear resistance is limited. Under the high frequency and heavy load operation scene, the gear is easy to have gear surface wear, broken teeth and other faults, resulting in short service life of electric tools and high maintenance cost. Aiming at the dual demands of lightweight and long life of power tool gears, Dow Laser cladding equipment has customized an ultra-thin coating strengthening scheme, which precisely controls the thickness of cladding layer within 0.2-0.5mm. While greatly improving the wear resistance of gears, it will not increase the additional load of gears, meeting the lightweight design requirements.
In terms of cladding material selection, nano-size wear-resistant alloy powder is adopted. The material has fine particles and high density. The hardness of cladding layer can reach HRC55-60, the friction coefficient is reduced to below 0.12, and the wear-resistant property is more than 2 times higher than that of traditional strengthening process. The angle grinder gear of an electric tool manufacturer was previously treated with traditional carburizing process. Obvious wear would occur when the continuous operation time was only 200 hours, and the user feedback maintenance was frequent. With the use of Dow laser cladding equipment, the continuous operation time of the gear is extended to 500 hours, the service life is increased by 2.5 times, and the average annual maintenance cost of users is reduced by 50%. At the same time, due to the metallurgical combination of the cladding layer and the gear matrix, the phenomenon of strengthening layer peeling will not occur, which effectively improves the product quality and market competitiveness of electric tools. The high-efficiency cladding process of the equipment can realize batch production, and the hardening time of a single gear is only 3 minutes, fully meeting the large-scale production requirements of the enterprise.
