Port crane gear cladding: Dow coping with heavy load impact working condition

As the core equipment of port cargo handling, the gear of hoisting mechanism and luffing mechanism of port crane shall frequently bear the impact load of lifting heavy objects. Meanwhile, the frequent faults such as dust, salt mist erosion, tooth root crack, tooth surface peeling and over-limit wear shall be handled. This kind of gear is large in size and heavy in weight. The replacement of a new gear not only requires the cooperation of large hoisting equipment, but also causes a long-time interruption of port loading and unloading operations, resulting in huge economic losses. The traditional repair welding process has a large heat affected zone, which is easy to cause gear deformation. It is difficult to ensure the bearing capacity of the repaired gear, and there are potential safety hazards. Based on the heavy load impact condition of port crane gear, the laser cladding equipment adopts the composite process of "crack pre-treatment+layered cladding". First, accurately locate the crack position and depth through ultrasonic detection, and then thoroughly remove the crack defects by mechanical grinding to avoid secondary failure caused by residual cracks.

In terms of cladding material selection, high-strength wear-resistant alloy powder is selected, which has excellent impact and wear resistance. The bonding strength between cladding layer and gear matrix is ≥ 550MPa, which can effectively withstand heavy load impact. The dustproof operation cabin equipped for the equipment can effectively resist the interference of port dust on the cladding process and ensure the cladding quality is stable. As for the 40t container crane in a coastal port, the gear of its lifting mechanism had to be shut down for maintenance every 6 months due to tooth surface peeling, and the single maintenance period was up to 3 days, affecting the cargo throughput of over 5000 tons. The gear has no secondary damage after 18 months of continuous and high-strength operation after being repaired with Dow laser cladding equipment. The wear of tooth surface is controlled within 0.1mm, and the service life is 2 times longer than that before. The repair cost is only 70% of the replacement of new gear, and the repair cycle is shortened to one day, reducing the shutdown loss by over 200000 yuan, significantly improving the operation efficiency of the port and the economical efficiency of equipment operation and maintenance.
