Aviation propeller blade is the core power component of general aviation aircraft, and its performance is directly related to aircraft flight safety and power output. In the flight process, the blade needs to withstand the strong scouring of high-speed airflow, the impact of foreign matters (such as birds, sand and dust), and the influence of high altitude, low temperature, humidity change and other environment, so it is easy to have defects such as blade surface wear, edge notch and tiny crack. These defects will reduce the aerodynamic performance of the blade, reduce the power output, and reduce the structural strength of the blade. In serious cases, the blade will be broken, causing flight accidents. Aviation propeller blades are made of special materials (mostly high-strength aluminum alloy and composite materials), with extremely high precision requirements and great repair difficulty. It is difficult to ensure repair quality by traditional repair methods. Based on the high precision and high safety requirements of aviation propeller blade, Dow Laser Cladding Equipment adopts high-precision positioning and micro-beam laser cladding technology to realize accurate repair of small defects of blade.

In terms of cladding material selection, light high-strength alloy powder is selected to ensure that the weight increase of the repaired blade is controlled within 0.5% without affecting the balance performance of the aircraft. The diameter of cladding spot can be controlled within 0.3mm, which can accurately repair the tiny notch and surface crack on the blade edge. The aerodynamic shape of the repaired blade is highly consistent with the original design, and the performance indexes reach more than 95% of the original blade. For the propeller blade of Cessna 172 aircraft in an aviation maintenance enterprise, edge notch and surface crack were found due to foreign matter impact, so it took 200000 yuan to replace with a new blade, and the supply period was 15 days. The repair cost is only 80000 yuan and the repair period is shortened to 3 days after the repair with Dow laser cladding equipment. The repaired blade has passed the airworthiness certification of CAAC and has been safely flying for 200 hours without any abnormality. This technology not only greatly reduces the aviation maintenance cost, but also shortens the maintenance cycle and ensures the normal operation of the aircraft.
