The working environment for oil drilling operations is extremely harsh, with critical components such as drill pipe joints and mud pump valves submerged in high-pressure mud slurry for extended periods. The rock cuttings mixed in the slurry continuously cause severe erosion and wear. According to previous statistics from an oilfield in the Middle East, the monthly replacement cost of such components due to wear reached $100,000, and each replacement required over 8 hours of downtime, severely hampering drilling progress. To address this pain point, the Dao Dao Dao laser cladding equipment employs a high-power fiber laser system, achieving a stable cladding speed of 1.2 mm/s to precisely apply a Cr3C2 alloy coating on worn surfaces. The coating has been tested to reach a hardness of HRC62, with wear resistance 2.8 times that of new parts. Additionally, its bonding strength with the substrate exceeds 500 MPa, eliminating the risk of coating detachment. After introducing this equipment for trial use, the Middle Eastern oilfield extended the replacement cycle for drill pipe joints from the original 2 weeks to 8 weeks and tripled the lifespan of mud pump valves. Annual savings in parts procurement and downtime losses exceeded $500,000. The equipment has since been incorporated into the standard maintenance toolkit for all drilling platforms.
