The spline part of the high-speed running gear shaft is prone to wear, pitting, and even tooth breakage due to repeated exposure to alternating contact stress. The overall replacement not only incurs high costs, but also has a long spare parts cycle. Laser cladding technology can accurately locate damaged areas, restore their geometric shape, and simultaneously improve surface performance.
For gear shafts made of 42CrMo material, alloy powder with similar composition to the substrate but slightly higher carbon content is selected for cladding to ensure good bonding and higher hardness. During laser processing, precise path planning is used to ensure a perfect reproduction of the tooth profile and leave even margins for subsequent gear grinding. The microstructure of the cladding layer is dense, without defects such as pores and slag inclusions.
The surface hardness of the repaired spline part can reach HRC 58-62, and the wear resistance is more than 1.5 times that of the original. Practical statistics show that the cost of this repair plan is only about 40% of the cost of purchasing new shafts, saving nearly 80% of production preparation time. This is of great significance for ensuring the continuous and stable operation of large-scale transmission systems in mining, metallurgy, and other industries.
