The universal joint fork on the hot rolling production line is prone to wear on the bearing mating surface due to its transmission of huge torque and strong impact, resulting in increased clearance and intensified vibration. The traditional method of replacing the entire universal joint assembly is costly and time-consuming. Laser cladding technology provides a perfect solution for local repair.
The repair process first involves turning and cleaning the worn fork holes to remove the fatigue layer. Subsequently, semiconductor lasers were used in conjunction with high hardness iron-based alloy powders (such as Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo-B series) for coaxial powder feeding and cladding in the wear area. The key to the process lies in controlling the heat input, adopting a segmented and skip point scanning strategy, and using temperature controlled fixtures to prevent thermal deformation of the thin-walled fork structure. The thickness of the cladding layer can reach 2-3mm, and the hardness is HRC 55-60.
After fusion, precision machining is carried out using a CNC boring machine to restore the original dimensional tolerance and surface smoothness of the hole position. The load-bearing capacity and wear resistance of the repaired universal joint reach or even exceed those of the new product, while the cost of a single repair is only 40% -50% of the purchase price of the new shaft. At the same time, the downtime is shortened from weeks to days, and the economic benefits are extremely significant.
