The use of laser cladding WC/Ni based composite coating is an effective solution to the severe abrasive wear problem of piston rods under harsh working conditions. Research has shown that by optimizing parameters such as laser power (e.g. 2-5 kW) and scanning speed (e.g. 0.5-1.2 m/min), WC hard particles can be uniformly dispersed in the Ni based alloy cladding layer, forming a hard reinforcement phase. For example, the WC/Ni based composite coating prepared on the surface of 35CrMo piston rod can improve its wear resistance by more than 5 times compared to the substrate material. This type of coating performs well in applications such as disc spring hydraulic mechanisms for high-pressure switch piston rods, with excellent mechanical fatigue resistance and a service life up to six times that of traditional electroplated parts. In addition, by adding W and V elements with high-temperature red hardness to the cladding material, the wear resistance stability of the coating at high temperatures can be further improved.
