Blade repair of aero-engine: Dow precision-fitting precision parts

As the core component of aircraft, the repair of aero-engine blade is of great significance. I will expand the contents from the working environment, technical difficulties, equipment advantages, actual case data and benefits of blades to make the contents more abundant and three-dimensional. 

Blade of aero-engine is under extremely complex working conditions of high temperature, high pressure and high rotating speed for a long time, bearing multiple effects of aerodynamic force, thermal stress and mechanical vibration, making its structure not only complex and precise, but also has strict requirements on manufacturing and repair accuracy. Once the blade surface has defects such as wear and minor cracks, the traditional repair methods are often difficult to meet the requirements, and a little carelessness may cause the whole blade to be scrapped. 

Dow's automated laser cladding equipment offers significant advantages in this area. Its high-precision positioning system, combined with advanced laser focusing technology, can precisely control the cladding spot diameter to 0.3mm, which is enough for the repair of complex curved surface and micropore defects on the blade edge. Whether it is the fine wear of the blade tip or the micro-crack on the surface of the blade body, the equipment can achieve accurate repair to ensure that the repair process does not damage the surrounding intact areas. 

In a special test carried out by a large aviation maintenance enterprise, Dow Laser Cladding Equipment repaired damaged aero-engine blades. During the repair process, the equipment automatically plans the optimal cladding path according to the 3D model data of the blade, and uses customized alloy powder to realize the metallurgical combination between the repair layer and the substrate through multi-layer and multi-channel cladding process. The final test results show that the key performance indicators of the blade repaired by cladding, such as hardness, wear resistance and fatigue strength, have reached over 95% of the original blade, fully meeting the use requirements of the aircraft engine. 

More importantly, from a cost effective point of view, the cost of repairing a single blade with a Dow laser cladding facility is only 40% of the cost of purchasing a new blade. This not only greatly reduces the operation cost of aviation maintenance enterprises, but also effectively shortens the maintenance cycle, improves the engine turnover efficiency, and provides a strong technical support for the sustainable development of the aviation industry.
