The surface of the hydraulic cylinder piston rod is prone to rusting when working outdoors or in humid environments. Once micro cracks appear in the traditional electroplated chromium layer, corrosive media will invade and cause the substrate to rust, leading to peeling and flaking of the coating. Laser cladding can prepare dense alloy coatings, providing long-lasting protection.

This study selected FeCrNiMo stainless steel alloy powder as the cladding material. Among them, high content of Cr can form a dense Cr2O3 passivation film on the surface, providing basic rust prevention ability; The addition of Mo element can significantly improve the pitting corrosion resistance of the coating in chloride containing ion media such as seawater and frozen salt. The cladding layer is completely dense, without any penetrating defects, like a physical barrier that isolates the substrate from the outside world.

The neutral salt spray test shows that the corrosion resistance of the laser cladding stainless steel coating reaches over 1000 hours without red rust, which is 5-8 times that of the electroplated hard chromium layer. This technology is particularly suitable for hydraulic cylinders in harsh working conditions such as construction machinery and offshore platforms, greatly improving the anti-corrosion life and reliability of the equipment.
