When high-speed steel milling cutters are used to process 45 # steel, the cutting edge is prone to chipping and wear. On average, 500 workpieces need to be sharpened, resulting in a 50% decrease in tool life after sharpening, leading to frequent tool replacement and low processing efficiency. Daokedao laser cladding uses nano ceramic composite powder (Al ₂ O ∝ - TiC), and forms a 0.15mm thick strengthening layer on the cutting edge with a 0.8KW pulsed laser. The coating hardness reaches HV1800, and the anti chipping performance is improved by three times, with excellent sharpness retention of the cutting edge. After a certain mechanical processing factory melted and overlaid a Φ 20mm high-speed steel end mill, it processed a 45 # steel flange and continuously cut 800 workpieces. The wear of the cutting edge was only 0.02mm, and the surface roughness Ra of the processed surface was still guaranteed to be ≤ 1.6 μ m. After application, the grinding cycle of the milling cutter has been extended by 60%, the total tool life has been increased by 2.2 times, and the annual number of workpieces processed by a single milling cutter has increased from 1200 to 2600, saving 40% of tool procurement costs.
